Professional statistician elects new leadership as Yahya emerges new president

The Professional Statisticians’ Society of Nigeria (PSSN) has elected a Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Statistics, University of Ilorin, Prof. Waheed Babatunde Yahya as the new President of the Society.

Prof. Yahya was the immediate past National Secretary of the society and doubled as the Editor-In-Chief of the society’s journal, Annals of Statistical Theory and Application and her conference proceedings.

In the same vein, the Society also elected Dr. Mohammed Kabir Garba of the same department as the new National Secretary.

The election was part of the Society’s events at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) & 6th International Conference co-hosted by Yaba College of Technology and Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Lagos, held between Monday (June 27,202) and Thursday (June 30, 2022).

The Two-In-One event with a Pre-conference Workshop themed, “Statistical Theories and Methods in Drug Development” facilitated by Statistics researchers and professionals in drug development from Novartis Phama AG, USA drew participants from higher institutions and research institutes all over the world.

The PSSN is the registered society of Statistics Professionals in Nigeria and was established with the mission to contribute to the development of the nation through advanced statistical research that benefits decision-makers, policy advisers, industrialists, and investors.
