The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education, has announced the launch of the Nigerian Capital Market/Secondary Schools Quiz Competition to promote financial literacy among young Nigerians.
The competition, organised in collaboration with Core International and supported by Financial Markets Indaba, is scheduled to begin in September 2025 and will run for six months.
A total of 370 secondary schools, 10 from each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, will participate.
The quiz will feature three stages: state-level preliminaries, zonal semi-finals, and a national grand finale. According to the organisers, the initiative aims to enhance students’ understanding of capital markets, savings, and investments, while fostering teamwork and academic excellence.
The competition will be hosted on the Financial Markets Indaba platform, which has experience in financial education and national engagement programmes.
To ensure the programme’s long-term impact, participating teachers will receive training workshops designed to support student preparation and integrate financial literacy into school curricula.
Students will also engage with a Virtual Trading Platform that replicates real-time trading using data from the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), offering hands-on experience with investment strategies in a risk-free environment.
The event, themed “Empowering Future Investors through Knowledge,” aligns with the SEC’s mandate to develop Nigeria’s capital market and protect investors.
Organisers say the competition will help build a financially literate generation and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
