The Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has applauded members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists for what he described as responsible and positive reportage of the Ilorin Emirate and the palace over the years.
The monarch gave the commendation during the grand finale of the 2026 Press Week organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel in Ilorin, where he urged journalists in the state to continue promoting unity, peace and national cohesion through balanced and developmental journalism.
Speaking through his spokesperson, Dr. Azeez Arowona, the Emir noted that the relationship between the palace and the media has remained cordial since his enthronement in 1993, describing journalists as critical partners in societal development.

According to Arowona, the Emir expressed appreciation to journalists for consistently projecting the palace positively, adding that the Ilorin Emirate remains one of the most reported traditional institutions in the country due to the media’s sustained attention.
He also challenged other chapels within the NUJ to emulate the Correspondents’ Chapel in terms of professionalism, focus and sense of purpose.
“The Emir is proud of the relationship the palace has maintained with journalists, especially members of the Correspondents’ Chapel. Your reports have continued to portray the palace positively and constructively,” Arowona stated.

The Emir further encouraged media practitioners to deploy their profession toward fostering peaceful coexistence, national harmony and the promotion of Kwara State’s image at the national level.
