The Vice Chancellor of the University of Thomas Adewunmi University, Prof. Francisca Oladipo has postulated that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will enhance broadcasting communication especially radio in Nigeria.
Oladipo stated this on Tuesday in Ilorin in her address at the 15th Year Anniversary Celebration of the University of Ilorin 89.3FM Radio Station.
The don who spoke on the theme: “Transforming Broadcasting in the Age of AI”, descibed radio as a powerful medium, and that with emerging technology, it can reshape the industry.
According to her, radio broadcasting is diverse, dynamic and through AI can provide opportunities for personalization and interaction with presenters.
“There is integration of postcasts. The radio provides accessibility, real time information, locak focus, companionship and discovery platform,” she said.
Oladipo posited that AI allows machine to carry out tasks including natural language processing, where news can be translated into indigenous languages.
She further explained that AI can be employed in assisted script writing and fact checking.
The VC advise the University of Ilorin to utilise the radio in generating content for monetization and teaching purpose.
She added that one of the challenges of radio production is huge amount expended on it, adding that there is also the issue of carbon emissions.
Oladipo stated that AI can be used to create content for digital platforms and increase visibility, including targeted advertising.
She advised on the need to invest in technology and innovation, adding that in enhancing radio broadcast, there is need to engage more with audience through creation of more content and building loyal community.
