The ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Kwara State has suffered a major setback, as Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s inauguration committee Chairman for the May 29, 2019 swearing-in ceremony, Senator Suleiman Makanjuola Ajadi and his followers dumped the party to Africa Democratic Congress (ADC).
Ajadi had lost the Kwara South Senatorial contest to the incumbent, Senator Lola Ashiru during the last APC primaries held in the state, last week.
Prior to his decision to join the ADC, Ajadi was a major pillar of the ruling party in Kwara state, since O’toge movement revolution in 2018. He was appointed by Gov Abdulrazaq as the Chairman Committee on Review of Sales of Government Property carried out by the immediate past administration.
It will be recalled that many aggrieved party stalwarts and faithfuls had dumped the party since last year.
Investigation by this medium revealed that members who are skeptical about the outcome of APC primaries were also perfecting plans to defect from the party after their hopes of living their dreams were crashed by emergence of candidates not their choice.
Members of APC across some Wards in the state protested the alleged imposition of candidates in the recently concluded primary elections in the state.
They had accused the State leadership of the party of being behind the alleged imposition of some candidates on them, disregarding the results of the primary elections and instead recognised candidates who lost out.
However, Ajadi emerged the ADC flag bearer for Kwara South Senatorial District unopposed during the party’s primary held on Saturday at its secretariat, Olunlade, along Ajase-Ipo Road, Ilorin the state capital.
The primary was conducted under the supervision of the National leadership of ADC, led by the National Vice Chairman of the Party, Comrade Peter Edeh and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Every effort made to speak with Senator Ajadi on what informed his decision to dump the ruling party proved abortive, as the decampee said that he is not ready to speak with pressmen for now.
“This is not the time to speak, let me conclude all what I am doing now. After I have submitted my letter of resignation to APC Secretariat by Monday I will then have audience with newsmen”, he said.
Senator Ajadi will fight for the seat of Kwara South Senatorial District against Senator Lola Ashiru of APC and Senator Rafiu Ibrahim of PDP.
