Saraki congratulates Obasanjo on his new appointment

The former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has congratulated former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on his recent appointment as the AU High Representative for the Horn of Africa.

This medium recalls that the Chairman of the African Union, AU, Moussa Faki Mahamat, appointed former President Obasanjo as his High Representative for the Horn of Africa region.

Mahamat said Obasanjo’s appointment was part of the AU’s drive to promote peace, security, stability and political dialogue across the Horn of Africa.

A statement by the AU indicated that the former Nigerian President will intensify engagements with all relevant political actors and stakeholders in the region towards entrenching durable peace and stability within the Horn of Africa.

The AU said, “The Chairperson of the Commission is most grateful to President Olusegun Obasanjo for accepting this strategic political assignment in the collective interest of the Union.

“The former Nigerian Leader brings with him very rich political experience, and impeccable credentials of keen commitment to the lofty ideals of Pan-Africanism and regional integration and cooperation, as well as a deep knowledge of the current situation in the Horn of Africa.”

While reacting, Saraki in a statement issued by his media office said that Obasanjo’s appointment was a testament to his “profound experience and widespread network across the continent and the world.

He noted that Obasanjo’s appointment would make Nigeria proud.Part of the statement read: “I congratulate H.E. President Olusegun Obasanjo on the appointment as the African Union (AU) High Representative for the Horn of Africa.

“As the AU continues to work to promote peace and stability in and amongst its Member States, President Obasanjo’s profound experience and widespread network across the continent and the world will undoubtedly help to meet these objectives.”

Saraki wished Obasanjo success as he begins his strategic assignment on behalf of the continent.
