The National Population Commission (NPC) Federal Commissioner in Adamawa, Clifford Zirra, has revealed that the stage is set for the 2023 population and housing census as the Commission is now in anticipation of President Bola Tinubu’s instructions to commence the census.
During an interactive session with media executives in Yola, Zirra conveyed that President Tinubu has expressed contentment with the commission’s achievements thus far.
Highlighting the significance of the census, Zirra emphasized its role in charting the nation’s future.
“It provides us with precise and current population data essential for effective planning and development. The collected information will form the bedrock for policy formulation, resource allocation, and the execution of diverse social and economic initiatives,” he stated.
Zirra also welcomed the government’s decision to postpone the census, recognizing it as an opportunity for the new administration to contribute to the census process. He pointed out that this delay has allowed the commission to enhance its procedures and systems for conducting the inaugural digital census.
Moreover, Zirra unveiled the commission’s comprehensive groundwork, which includes Enumeration Area Demarcation, pre-tests, field staff training, and the establishment of nationwide ICT infrastructure.
Alhaji Abubakar Hamma-Adama, the NPC Director in the state, commended the collaborative efforts between the commission and media organizations, underscoring the vital role of effective publicity and awareness in ensuring the success of the census.
