30% salary review: Kwara NLC praises AbdulRazaq’s labour-friendly policies

by Editor

The Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has lauded His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), over his recent approval of a 30 per cent upward review of salaries for core civil servants in the state.

In a letter dated December 18, 2025, the Kwara NLC, under the leadership of Comrade Muritala Saheed Olayinka, on behalf of workers, expressed appreciation to Governor AbdulRazaq for the kind gesture and for prioritising the welfare of the state’s workforce. The Union noted that the administration has continued to take deliberate steps to alleviate the plight of workers.

“We wish to express our deep appreciation to His Excellency’s magnanimity in alleviating the plight of workers through various welfare-driven approvals, especially the recent approval of a 30 per cent peculiar allowance for core civil servants in Kwara State,” the letter read in part.

Comrade Olayinka recalled the hardship faced by civil servants under previous administrations, including the non-payment of salaries and poor treatment of workers. He acknowledged that the AbdulRazaq administration has clearly surpassed past governments in its commitment to workers’ welfare.

“His Excellency’s performance in the area of workers’ welfare has, in our considered judgement, surpassed that of previous governments. This has earned him widespread praise and recognition as one of the best-performing governors in Kwara State since the return to democratic governance in 1999,” the union asserted.

The welfare of workers under the AbdulRazaq administration has not only improved but has significantly surpassed that of previous governments. Since 2019, the governor has consistently prioritised the wellbeing of civil servants through the timely payment of salary, regular promotions, and the implementation of the new minimum wage.

The NLC further assured the state government of continued cooperation and industrial harmony, noting that improved workers’ welfare boosts morale, productivity, and service delivery. The Congress urged the administration to sustain the tempo, describing the governor’s labour-friendly policies as a foundation for sustainable development and socio-economic stability in Kwara State.
