Another setback for Kwara PDP as Ex-Chairman, Babatunde Mohammed resigns

The Kwara State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has suffered another major setback as its immediate past state chairman and former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Babatunde Mohammed resigned his membership of the party.

In a letter signed by himself on October 15, 2025, and received by the PDP chairman in Agujin Ward, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, the former chairman stated that he joined the party in 2002 and had never left it until now, adding that his decision to resign was purely for personal reasons.

“I joined the PDP in 2002, precisely 23 years ago, without leaving the party even for a day. But the reason for my resignation is purely personal,” Hon. Babatunde Mohammed said.

Mohammed handed over as the state chairman of the PDP barely last week following the state congress, which was attended by Senator Bukola Saraki and other party leaders.

Barely two days after resigning from the party, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed is believed to have officially joined the coalition party, ADC, as he was seen attending the party’s flag-off and the commissioning of its state secretariat.

Mohammed’s resignation from the PDP and subsequent defection to the ADC has sparked reactions among Kwarans and political observers, who believe that the Saraki-led Kwara PDP may now struggle for the second position with the ADC, given its loss of thousands of members in the last few years and growing rejection among the people
