Gov. AbdulRazaq approves 27.5% TSA for Kwara Teachers

The Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved a 27.5 per cent Teachers’ Specific Allowance (TSA) for eligible teachers across the state, hours after presenting the 2026 budget to the State House of Assembly.

The approval gives effect to the Governor’s pledge during the budget presentation earlier on Monday, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and strengthening the education sector.

According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, the allowance will take effect from January 2026.

The statement explained that the 27.5 per cent TSA will apply to Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)-certificated teachers under the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on the CONKWESS I salary structure. Teachers without TRCN certification will receive a 21 per cent allowance.

Governor AbdulRazaq again acknowledged the indispensable role of teachers in the development of the education sector and the broader task of nation-building, commending their dedication and commitment despite prevailing challenges.

The approval of the TSA is part of the administration’s broader efforts to enhance motivation, professionalism, and service delivery within the education system, while consolidating ongoing reforms in the sector.

The development has been widely welcomed as another significant step by the Kwara State Government toward improving teachers’ welfare and reinforcing the foundation of quality education in the state.
