The Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, has reassured the public that the State government remains fully committed to prioritizing the welfare and safety of students and staff across all tertiary institutions in the State.

She made this known yesterday while receiving the management team of the College of Health Technology, Offa, who paid her a courtesy visit in Ilorin following a viral video misrepresenting the condition of one of the hostels in the College.

Kawu commended the College’s management for their swift and transparent response to the misleading claims, describing their actions as a demonstration of accountability and dedication to students’ welfare.

“The welfare, safety, and conducive learning environment of our students and staff are top priorities for this administration. We will not allow false narratives to overshadow the genuine efforts being made to transform education in our State,” she stated.

The Commissioner also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his remarkable investments in infrastructure and facilities across educational institutions in Kwara State.

“The AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration will not compromise the welfare and safety of students and staff. This government has invested heavily in infrastructure across all our institutions to ensure a conducive environment for academic excellence,” she added.

Kawu urged members of the public to disregard the false claims circulating online, stressing that the Kwara State Government remains committed to equipping all tertiary institutions with the resources and policies needed to excel.

She also appealed to stakeholders to engage constructively with relevant institutions to foster positive development rather than spread misinformation.

During the visit, the management of the College, led by the Board Chairman, Mohammed Halidu Musa, and the Provost, Elder Benjamin Ayansola, presented a detailed account of the situation. They explained that the hostel shown in the viral video had not been allocated to any students, as it had already been marked for renovation.

“The hostel featured in the viral video is currently not in use and has not been allocated to students. The building has already been marked for renovation and is part of ongoing infrastructural improvements in the institution.

“Over two months ago, all individuals who encroached upon the hostel were identified and promptly evacuated by the school authorities, in line with our commitment to safety and orderliness within the College environment,” the team stated.

The Board Chairman, however, expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his continuous investment and unwavering support to the college.

He called on the public to disregard the misinformation and avoid further sharing of false claims.”The Management remains transparent and welcomes constructive engagement from all stakeholders toward the progress of the College,” he said.
