Kwara NUJ grieves over ex-Scribe’s passing

by Editor

The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed grief over the transition of former Secretary of the council, Mr Timothy Nathaniel, describing it as a rude shock.

The council said the contributions of the ex-scribe in upholding the integrity and sanctity of the union in the face of past adversity and tribulations remain invaluable.

This was contained in a condolence statement issued in Ilorin last night by the state NUJ Chairman and Secretary, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed and Omotayo Ayanda respectively.

It added that Nathaniel, a former Chief Press Secretary to the former State Deputy Governor and Deputy Director, Government House, Ilorin, would be remembered as a dogged fighter and true comrade in union movement.

The council observed that attributes such as humility, professionalism and comradeship stood the former NUJ Secretary out among his peers in the world of pen and unionism.

While noting that the vacuum created with the transition of Nathaniel would be difficult to fill, the statement prayed Almighty God to uphold his family in this moment of mourning and grief.

“We received the news of the transition of Mr Timothy Nathaniel, our former Council Secretary with utmost disbelief and rude shock. He was a dogged fighter and comrade in a class of his own.

“His firmness in upholding the integrity and sanctity of the union in the face of past adversity and tribulations remain invaluable and indelible. A true comrade, he was in the affairs of the union.

“Notwithstanding this moment of grief however, the state council of NUJ is comforted with the fine attributes such as humility, professionalism and comradeship that stood Mr Timothy Nathaniel out among his peers. He would also be remembered for his grooming and mentorship of front line journalists in the media industry”, the NUJ condolence statement partly read.
