The Kwara State Ministry of Livestock Development in collaboration with the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, Kwara State chapter are set to organize a free anti rabies vaccination to mark this year’s World Rabies Day.
A statement from the Ministry and signed by the Commissioner, Oloruntoyosi Ayobola Thomas, said a week-long programme would be flagged off at the Ministry’s premises along Old Jebba road, Ilorin, on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Owners of eligible dogs and cats are expected to bring their pets to State Veterinary Clinic along Old Jebba road, Sango, Ilorin and Veterinary Hospital, Adewole, Ilorin, for the vaccination.
The Ministry therefore, called on the members of the public to bring forward their eligible dogs and cats for free anti rabies vaccination to prevent casualty that follows dogs and cats bites.
The statement further encouraged Kwara people to avail themselves the opportunity to vaccinate their dogs and cats at no cost during the vaccination period, emphasizing that failure to report cases of dogs and cats bites early in the past had led to untimely death of many citizens.
World Rabies Day, according to the statement, is celebrated world over, every September 28, to combat this extremely deadly disease in pets.
