The Management of The Federal Polytechnic Offa has again observed with deep concern a fresh publication circulating online and on social media alleging misappropriation of accreditation funds and outsourcing of equipment during the recently concluded NBTE Accreditation Exercise.
It is important to state clearly that this latest publication simply repeats the same old falsehood earlier published by Daily Post on11th August, 2025, titled “Federal Poly Offa: ASUP decries ₦500m accreditation fraud.” That report was comprehensively addressed and dismissed months ago with facts, figures, and documentary evidence. The same questions are being asked again despite having been fully answered.
For the avoidance of doubt and in the interest of the Polytechnic community and general public, Management restates the following:
1.Accreditation Budget and Scope
The Polytechnic was scheduled for accreditation of 81 academic programmes, not 21 as mischievously alleged.
The ₦500 million being circulated in the media was a proposed and duly approved budget presented to the Governing Council in compliance with extant public service financial regulations.
Initial departmental needs totalled about ₦900 million, but Management prudently reviewed the request down to approximately ₦500 million without affecting NBTE standards.
2.Procurement and Deployment of Equipment
More than ₦300 million worth of up-to-date laboratory, workshop, studio, and office equipment were purchased and distributed to relevant departments.
Every programme going for accreditation received the required facilities, which were inspected and confirmed by NBTE Resource Persons.
Claims that equipment were borrowed or outsourced remain false, malicious, and intended to mislead the public. No external sourcing occurred.
3.Financial Transparency and Oversight:
All expenditures passed through strict approval processes and were subjected to internal and external auditing.
A statutory ₦30 million was paid directly to NBTE, while the balance covered transportation, accommodation, feeding, and honoraria for almost 100 officially appointed NBTE personnel.
Comparative analysis with similar exercises across Nigerian tertiary institutions shows that the cost implications are standard and reasonable.
4.Integrity of Management:
Accusations that the Rector, Engr. Dr. Kamoru Kadiri, and the Director of Academic Planning, Engr. Dr. Waheed Balogun, requested ₦50 million and ₦20 million for personal use are irresponsible, defamatory, and completely false.
The Polytechnic’s financial management framework does not allow diversion or personal handling of funds at any stage.
5.Tangible Growth and Development:
The present administration has transformed academic and infrastructural capacity at an unprecedented pace. These include:
- Fully accredited programmes and expansion into new ones
- Commissioned TETFund projects in classrooms, laboratories, and offices
- Improved ICT infrastructure and e-learning capability
- Enhanced staff welfare and work environment
These developments are evidence of diligent and transparent financial administration.
6.Union Participation and Due Process: Accreditation Committees already include Deans, HODs, and senior academic staff who are members of ASUP.
The idea of a separate “ASUP slot” has no basis in NBTE accreditation procedures and is unnecessary.
The Federal Polytechnic Offa continues to operate with a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and academic excellence. The general public is strongly advised to disregard attempts to resurrect debunked allegations and to avoid being misled by publications that sensationalize falsehoods in order to tarnish the reputation of the institution.
Responsible journalism requires verification of facts. Any media house or stakeholder seeking clarification is always welcome to obtain accurate information from the official channels of the Polytechnic.
The Federal Polytechnic Offa remains focused on its mission to produce highly skilled and morally upright graduates for national development.
