The State Taskforce on Human Trafficking (STF) held a stakeholders meeting with leaders and representatives of the Zuru Community on December 15, 2025. The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration and design effective strategies to combat human trafficking in the state.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the STF, Hon. Senior Ibrahim Sulyman urged the community leaders to cooperate with the state government in the fight against human trafficking.

He emphasized that the government is committed to exposing and prosecuting traffickers, and that a community-based approach is crucial in solving this menace.

The Chairman highlighted the existing legal framework prohibiting human trafficking and child exploitation, and reiterated the government’s commitment to enforcing these laws and protecting victims.

He also revealed plans to design a migrant information form to capture biodata of every migrant for proper documentation and planning.

The representative of the Zuru Community, Emmanuel Sarkin Yaki, expressed gratitude to the state government for involving the community in this initiative.

He acknowledged the prevalence of trafficking in their community and highlighted contributing factors such as poverty, lack of access to education, and limited economic opportunities. Victims, mostly women, children, and youths from Kebbi State, are exploited as domestic help, child labour, and in other exploitative activities.

He pledged the community’s willingness to work with government authorities to curb trafficking and promote community-based solutions.

The STF reaffirms its commitment to combating human trafficking and urges all stakeholders to join forces in this fight. Together, we can create a safer and more secure environment for all.
