Shun electoral violence, thuggery, MSSN urges youths

Muslim Student Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has called Nigerian Youths to shun every violence during the forthcoming general elections that would hold across the country.

The organization made this call in a communiqué signed by its Zonal Chairman and Secretary, Muhammad Bin Isa and Auwal Yunus respectively, at the end of the 79th Islamic Vacation Course (IVC), “A” Zone held in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The course which has its theme as “The New Dawn MSSN on Call”, was held between 22nd to 28th December, 2022.

The organization urged Muslim youths to form a unifying force and avoid been used as political thugs before, during and after elections that will jeopardize the success of the 2023 general elections.

The communiqué stated that there is need for religious leaders and parents to redirect their focus towards attitudinal change, character development, orientation and role modeling, while Muslims should absolutely reflect and act upon the life of the Prophet Muhammad in the evolving world with a view to reviving the lost glory of the Muslims.

The communiqué stated further that there is need for spiritual and moral training, active defense and promotion of Islamic cause and investment using Islamized digitalization and ICT content development for the preservation of our future generation.

It also called on Government to provide a secured conducive environment in the banditry spot areas to enable farmers carryout their farming activities towards ensuring food security in the country.

“Security agencies need to collect and monitor information so that they can be proactive and predict potential crimes near perfect accuracy and not reactively”, the communiqué stated.

The communiqué added that as a matter of urgency, Government should implement all the regulatory controlled economic policies including price control mechanism for stable economy with a view to ease the hardship of the average Nigerians.

It also appealed Government and ASUU to find a common ground and put the interest of Nigerian students at heart in order to permanently address the lingering strike action with the government living up to their part of agreement so as to uphold the standard of education.

While calling on Muslim Ummah and MSSN in particular to adopt all legal measures possible against any infringement on the freedom and religious rights of the Muslim sisters with appropriate sanction on violators, it urged United Nations to prevail on the Israeli government to abide by the UN Charter on human rights thereby granting equal state right for the Palestine while the Muslim nations as a matter of brotherhood fight for a common cause for the liberation of the Palestine.

The week-long event witnessed intensive training, instructors workshop, classroom instructions, Da’awah outreach, seminars and panel discussions, mentoring sessions, video shows, lectures on topics such as Reviving the lost Glory of Muslims, The New Dawn MSSN on call, Muslim Women and SMEs, Community Service as a Tool for Growth and Development among others.

The IVC had in attendance over one thousand nine hundred participants from the Northern States and Abuja.

79th IVC: Gov AbdulRazaq seeks collaboration of religious groups on national development

The Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has called for concerted efforts of all the religious groups in the country to accelerate national growth and development.

Governor Abdulrazaq made the call on Saturday while declaring open the 79th National Islamic Vacation Course (IVC), organised by Muslim Students’ Society of the Nigeria (MSSN).

This year annual event with the theme ‘The New Dawn: MSSN on Call’, is being held in Ilorin, the Kwara State, between 22nd and 28th December, 2022.

His Excellency urged participants to interact and deliberate on ways to utilise their gathering to enhance national unity, promote healthy debate on diversity and National development.

“I want to implore you all to sustain the teachings and tenets of the religion for peaceful coexistence with people of other faiths. One of the greatest legacies of our Noble Prophet Muhammad is the good conduct and impeccable relationship amongst the people of other religions”, he said.

Governor Abdulrazaq re-emphasized the need to collectively address the decadence and near collapse of morality among the nation’s children.

He noted that the rate at which young people get involved in various social vices is alarming, saying substance abuse, drop in commitment to collective good and misuse of the social media are issues that must engage attention.

His Excellency said further that as a country, we must be vigilant on security issues, including banditry and abduction for ransom.

The Royal Father of the day and Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari welcomed participants to the State of Harmony and urged them to put in their best to have a successful camping.

The Emir, who was represented by the Balogun Gambari, Alhaji Aliyu Adebayo urged participants to make good use of the knowledge gained at the vocation course to develop themselves and for the benefits of the society at large.

His Royal Highness, however, commended all those that contributed to the successes recorded on the commencement of the programme, even as he prayed for their peaceful stay in Kwara State.

Earlier, in his address, the Chairman, Council of Hosting Fathers and Mentors, Justice Idris Abdullahi Haroon, OFR called on parents and guardians to encourage their wards to play active roles in the MSSN branch of their respective schools towards disseminating and imbibing values and lessons learnt from such fora.

Justice Haroon stated that over the years, MSSN’s IVCs has undoubtedly provided opportunities through various lectures, mentoring and well guided training that have usually been structured to hold during the vacation course.

“As a student of Islam and trainer of trainers, I align wholeheartedly with the rationales for creating opportunities for bringing our children and future leaders of our society together in fora like this”, he said.

While thanking His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari for considering him and his team worthy of the assignment, Justice Haroon stated that their Committee had been responsible for coordinating the various bodies involved in the planning for a successful IVC and specifically raising fund to accomplish the needs of over 4,000 participants that are expected to attend the IVC.

In his address, the National Amir, MSSN, Mall. Shehu Uthman Abubakar, said that apart from the general state of Nigeria as a nation, the MSSN being more of a youth organization, focused on the matters that affect the religion and the youth who are greatest assets and potentially the greatest investment or the development and reconstruction of any nation which is as well positively correlated with the extent of the vitality, responsible conduct and roles of the youth in the Society.

“In Nigeria today, more than 70% of the 217,079,601 populations which amount to 151 million people are the youth from different tribes, cultures, ethnicity, language, traditions and most importantly religions. Yet, the youth are at the receiving end in the current state of the nation.

“Despite the fact that Nigeria is endowed with abundance of natural resources that could make it the best and the greatest among the leading nations in the world. Yet our noble country, Nigeria is compounded with several instances of unrest, ranging from Boko haram insurgency, insecurity that trends in different forms, dimension and manifestations unemployment and redundancy among youth of productive age, high rate of criminal activities such as kidnapping, Banditry, Armed Robbery, assassination and ethno-religious disharmony among others all of which affects the youth greatly more than any other class of people in the country”, he said.

Abubakar noted that the Muslim MSSN, is concerned more about the devastating setback caused by academic insecurity ranging from; lack of modern teaching aids and facilities that could enhance the educational growth and development in our various institutions of learning.

He said further that poor salary scale for the teachers at the primary and post primary institutions in the country, the incessant ASSU strike and lack of promptness in taking expert action to address the situation from both the States and the Federal governments, which left the students roaming about, jobless and hopelessly, while some were loss to kidnapping and banditry among other anti-social vices adding to the nations’ state of insecurity.

He therefore call upon the youth to participate in the coming 2023 general election actively but wisely in order to salvage our beloved country that is at the verge of disintegration, while we remain patriotic law abiding and visionary in order to take-over the leadership of this country in the nearest.

“The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria MSSN, on the other hand have possessed every political strength and structure to make difference in the country’s democratic election now and ever. The Society possess about 6 million member across the 36 states of the federation with 236 Area Councils each equivalent to 2 or more local government areas. The society has a total of 111 Central branches each institutions and 17,097 post primary institutions which make the society to have a total of 20,700 branches across the country”, he added.

Speaking, the ‘A’ Zone Chairman, 19 Northern State and Abuja, Mallam Muhammed Bin Isa said that today is another dawn on every Muslim across the globe. This is a new sun shining on the heads of believers. Yesterday was a history of those who fought the war and won. Today is the news of descendants eating the fruits of the heroes’ labour.

“However the bad outmarts the right; violence overshadows peace; ignorance challenges knowledge; nothing shall weaken the strength of Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria in disseminating the right message to the Ummah. This is what we have inherited and nothing shall jeopardize that interest.

“Our journey this year in this noble city of the state of harmony has a remarkable significance in the history of MSSN. Kwara is North and the North is Kwara State. Kwara State MSSN remains one of the most committed wings of the society from the National to the Zonal level. Like Abubakar and Umar to the Prophet, peace be upon him, Kwara enters every wide and close holes of jihad with MSSN, irrespective of the challenges.

“Historically, llorin was the first National headquarters of MSSN. The 32-plot parcel of land acquired by MSSN in 1974 reminds the Umnmah of the strenuous efforts asserted by the leadership of MSSN in llorin. Without Ilorin, the history of the society is incomplete. Bringing in National IVC to Kwara State is really a new dawn”, he added.

In his address, the Amir MSSN, Kwara State Area Unit, Mall. Abdulrahman AbdulAbdulmumin, welcomed participants to the formal opening ceremony of the 79th National Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, the event which he said is unique because of the circumstances surrounding it.

“It is a programme to formally declare open the most extensive programme of the MSSN, which is universally regarded as Muslim Students’ Haj.

“The IVC has earned the name from its nature of enjoying not less than four thousand (4000) participants from the 19 Northern States and FCT to train and teach Islamic values to Muslim students.

“The event is also unique because it is indeed the birth of several positive developments in the history of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Kwara State Area Unit. This is because the Area Unit has never hosted a National programme of this sort, and here it is unfolding before our eyes”, AbdulAbdulmumin said.

He however expressed gratitude to his Excellency, the Governor of Kwara State, Mall Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq; the Emir of Ilorin, Alh. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari; Justice Idris Abdullahi Haroon, Dr. Olayiwola Ayinla, the chairman local organizing Committee and other stakeholders for their supports in ramifications towards the success of the programme.

Other highlights of the occasion are: Recitation from the Holy Qur’an, launching MSSN newsletter ‘MAZONE’, Awards and Honours to distinguished fathers and mothers, presentation of awards to the 2022 winners of Quiz and Essay competition and fund raising for the development of the society among others.

EMIR COMMENDS COUNCIL ON NATIONAL ISLAMIC VACATION COURSE IN ILORIN

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has commended the Council of Hosting Fathers, Elders, and Mentors of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) 79th (A-Zone) National Islamic Vacation Course level of preparation in the hosting of over 4000 delegates to this year IVC in the State.

The Emir made the commendation while receiving the Council and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) members of the event, which comprised all the 19 Northern states and Abuja at his Palace in Ilorin.

In a statement issued by the Chairman, 79th (A-Zone) National Islamic Vacation Course, LOC, Publicity Sub-Committee, Mallam Mustafa Abubakar, copy made available to journalists, stated that the Council was inaugurated by His Royal Highness to oversee the affairs of hosting a befitting programme, which is the first National Islamic Vacation Course to be held in the State.

The Emir also thanked and prayed for all those that have contributed to the successes recorded so far and urged all other Kwarans and Muslim philanthropists to support them, as it is a gateway to their eternal bliss and reward in the hereafter.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Council, Retired Grand Kadi of Kwara State Hon. Justice Idris Abdullahi Haroon, CFR, said that members were in the Palace to brief the Emir on the assignment given to the Council and LOC on the successful hosting of the programme.

Justice Haroon also informed the Emir that arrangements have been concluded to provide accommodation and feeding for over four thousand MSS Members who would attend the program that would last for one week.

He explained that while Male participants would be accommodated at Federal Government College Ilorin, the Female participants would be accommodated at Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin where they will be having their tutorials during the week-long programme.

While commanding some dedicated and committed Muslim philanthropists in the State who have donated to the hosting, he thanked the Emir for signing the letters requesting support from Eminent Muslim leaders in the State who have contributed their resources to host the participants.

He prayed for long life and sound health for the Emir so that he could witness many of these in his lifetime.

In his comment, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Prof. Badmas Lanre Yusuf disclosed that the Islamic Vacation Course will begin in Ilorin on the 22nd and end on the 28th of this month while the Formal Opening Ceremony of the IVC will be performed by the Sultan of Sokoto on Saturday, 24th December, 2022 at the Kwara State Stadium Complex Ilorin.

in his words of appreciation, the Secretary to the Council of Hosting Fathers, Elders, and Mentors of the NIVC, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, assured the Emir that the Security Agencies are working in concert with the Council to provide maximum security throughout the training.

Islamic Vacation Course is an annual programme for Muslim students on skill acquisition, and sound spiritual and moral education to be good future leaders.

NIVC: MSSN, Kwara inaugurates 16-man committee

The leadership of the Muslims Students Society of Nigeria(MSSN), Kwara Area Unit has inaugurated a twenty-six(16) member Local Organizing Committee(LOC) to coordinate and see to the successful hosting of the 79th National Islamic Vacation Course( NIVC) to be hosted by the State.

The NIVC is scheduled to hold between the 22nd – 28th of December, 2022 at two different locations within Ilorin Metropolis, the State capital.

The LOC inauguration, held on Yaomal Khamis, 29th Dhul Hijjah, 1433AH, equivalent to Thursday, 28th July 2022 at the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin, under the supervision of the National Board of Trustees(BoT) member, Professor Badmas ‘Lanre Yusuf, has men and women of high resourcefulness and commitment to the service of Islam and humanity.

In his opening remarks, Professor Badmas, who was also the Chairman of the occasion, acknowledged the praises and adorations of Allah, for making the day a reality, seeking the Peace and blessings of Allah on Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his Household, Companions, and the generality of those who follow the righteous path till the day of resurrection.

The members included: Dr. Abubakar Ayinla as the Chairman, Alhaji Ameen Suleiman, Engr. Imam Yassar Remilekun, Prof. Mahfouz Adedimeji, Prof. Nasir Abdussalam, Prof. Mubarak Saani, Alhaji Usman Abolarin, Mallam Usman Abdulmalik, Mallam Ali Abdulkareem, Alhaji Abubakar Imam Ayinla, Barr. Abdurrazaq Ayub Jabaje, Bro. Idris Olanrewaju, Mrs. R. O Abdullahi, Dr. (Mrs) F. A Sulayman, Alhaja Salamat Jimoh and Prof. Abdullateef Oladimeji as the Secretary.

Welcoming members of the commitment to the epoch-making event, Professor Badmas said that “MSSN is synonymous to all of us being a platform where we were trained. In other to continue to fulfill one of the several aims and the objectives of its establishment, hence there is what is called Islamic Vacation Course IVC”.

“It is a week-long program which usually the month of December of every year. The program attracts students from primary up to university levels. The main activities in the camps among others include lectures, ta’alimat, classroom instructions, Da’awah outreach, interactive fora, skills acquisitions as well as the issuance of communiqué”, he stressed.

According to him, this timeframe is aimed at improving the Muslim skill, creating interaction between Muslims, providing and providing platform wherein Muslim youths will have access to participate in Da’wah activities and receive classroom instructions from different Muslim scholars all over the country.

“The National IVC is to be held in the two zones of the society namely the ‘’A’’ zone and the ‘’B’’ zone. The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, MSSN “A” Zone comprising the 19 Northern States and FCT has decided to stage the 79th National Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) in KWARA, from 22nd – 2nd December 2022 tagged (KWARA ‘’2022’’).

“The total number of expected participants is Four thousand (4000) in this year IVC and the program is aimed at training and inculcating the Islamic values in the Muslim students, which draws its participants from the 19 Northern States and FCT”.

“It is on this note, that we are putting in place this Local Organizing Committee which comprises of the men and women of calibre and calibre who have been carefully selected to serve in different capacities. LOC is always the engine room to serve and coordinate all the sub-committees in the realization of the IVC objectives”.

While welcoming members of the other guests, the Amir of the State MSSN, Bro. Abdurrahman Abdulmumin disclosed that the Area Unit has never hosted a National programme of the sort, said that the event is special because LOC is the brain box, engine room and the nucleus of the National IVC, a programme which is fondly regarded as Muslim Students’ Hajj.

He said that the IVC has earned the name from its nature of enjoying not less than four thousand (4000) participants from the 19 Northern States and FCT with the aim of training and inculcating Islamic values in Muslim students.

“The event is also special because it is indeed a prelude for the birth of several positive developments in the history of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Kwara State Area Unit. This is because the Area Unit has never hosted a National programme of this sort and here it is, unfolding before our very eyes, under the guardianship of our father, a distinguished Member of the National Board of Trustees, MSSN, Prof. Badmas ‘Lanre Yusuf. We pray that Allah lends us His assistance and assist all through”.

“The event is equally special because, as executives of the Area Unit, Area Councils and Branches, past leaders of MSSN in different capacities and are still till the moment, committed to the noble we are seated here with our fathers and mothers who were active and committed members to achieve a common goal–Successful staging of the National IVC and attaining
the pleasure of our Lord”.

“The event is also special because it is serving as a bridge between-losing long lost connections of the constituent members of the big MSSN family”, he added.

While thanking members for responding to the invitation, on behalf of all Executives of the Area Unit down to the Branch, the Amir pledged their unflinching commitment and subservience to the members of the Committee and prayed for Allah’s assistance to completely discharge the duties toward having a successful National IVC.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla, appreciated the submission and for making him the Chairman, stressing that, by the grace of Allah they will put in their best to have successful camping.

Meanwhile, Prof. Badmas earlier disclosed that another committee with major responsibility to mobilize and rally support for the successful hosting of the event will be flagged off by His Royal Highness, Mai-Martabah, Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, CFR this week.
