Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has continued to consolidate its reputation as a leading faith-based institution in Nigeria, achieving significant progress in academics, infrastructure, and international collaborations over the last three months.
This was revealed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lateef F. Oladimeji, FCIPM, during the presentation of his report to the University Senate, covering activities between July 14 and October 14, 2025
Professor Oladimeji said his administration has continued to “hit the ground running” in line with his promise to reposition the institution for excellence in teaching, research, and service.
Highlighting key achievements during the period, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) successfully conducted the resource verification of the University’s Distance Learning Centre on July 23, 2025.
He also reported a stress-free conduct of the Second Semester Examinations and the Sandwich Programme, which recorded a 100% increase in student enrolment.
Professor Oladimeji added that the University has commenced its Summer School Programme, with lectures ongoing and examinations scheduled for November.
In the area of academic excellence, he announced that students and alumni of Al-Hikmah University won several national, regional, and state laurels, while the B.Nursing Science and Medical Laboratory Science students recorded 100% success rates in their professional examinations. The University also celebrated successful results from the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) examinations.
He disclosed that preparations are underway for the resource verification visit by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for the proposed MB;BS programme, noting that the furnishing of the MB;BS complex is almost completed.
In a bid to sustain academic standards, the University engaged over fifteen professors on sabbatical appointments to strengthen the institution’s teaching and research profile.
On infrastructure, the Vice-Chancellor revealed that construction activities are in full swing at the Atere Permanent Site, including a 60-room Postgraduate Hall of Residence, the Faculty of Engineering Workshop, and the Nursing Complex. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences building has also reached the DPC level, he added.
Professor Oladimeji further disclosed that Al-Hikmah University is expanding its international collaborations with universities in Senegal and The Gambia, noting that he, alongside the Registrar and Director of CRIIC, attended the 9th International Conference of the U6+ Consortium of Universities in The Gambia, where the University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with five international institutions.
He announced the nomination of two Al-Hikmah scholars, Dr. Ayinla and Dr. Aisha Muhammad, into the Board of the African Centre for Herbal Research Institute (ACHRI), describing it as another milestone for the institution.
According to him, preparations are in top gear for the next convocation ceremony, which will be held as a two-day event, in line with the approval of the University’s Governing Council.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, expressed appreciation to the University Senate for its continuous support and guidance, pledging to build on the current momentum to move Al-Hikmah University to greater heights.
