The candidate running for the Senatorial seat of Kwara South on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in next month election, Professor Olawale Sulaiman, CON, has expressed readiness to develop Kwara South of the state if elected.

Sulaiman, who decried the poor condition of the people of the constituency, promised to bring basic amenities and infrastructure to the constituency.

Addressing newsmen at the official unveiling of ‘Kwara South Prosperity Agenda’ in Ilorin on Monday, Sulaiman promised to bring noticeable development to their door step within his tenure in the Red Chamber.

He noted that Kwara South has remained significantly underdeveloped for the past 30 years despite their active participation in the electioneering process. 

According to him, “it is time that we stopped allowing the political elites from using our people as mere ‘voters’. The time has come for us all to be critical stakeholders in the affairs of our region and take our destiny into our hands. 

“Our people must decide between political elites that have made Kwara South a region that works for only a handful of people while the masses suffer, or individuals like myself with a clear vision, mission, skills and capabilities to deliver a more progressive, prosperous and United Kwara South. 

“People-fearing politicians or God-fearing individuals. The people-fearing politicians have continuously demonstrated that they cannot deliver the dividends of democracy that are owed to our people as they often divert much needed resources in Kwara South to other districts by instructions of their Godfathers”, he said. 

Speaking further on his agenda for his people, the SDP senatorial candidate listed six priority areas to include promotion of free education for primary and secondary school children in his constituents, enrolment into health insurance scheme, job creation, and tourism development.

On the proposed Kwara South development fund, the SDP candidate explained that he would use his network already established internationally to “mop-up some funds” to achieve his agenda.

He said the six areas of priority he highlighted in his agenda were results of “intense research, investigation and analysis” carried out by a commissioned consultant.

While canvassing for more support, Sulaiman said that constituents must decide whether they want to go back to the dark days of political enslavement or secure their political freedom by electing him as the next Senator on February 25th, 2023. 

“I believe that I am the best choice for the Kwara South Senatorial District. I enjoin all men and women of good will, leaders of influence, all our electorates in Oyun, Offa, Ekiti, Oke-Ero, Isin, Ifelodun and Irepodun Local Government Areas to ‘ride the horse’ with us to a guaranteed destination of progress, genuine development, effective representation and restored hope and happiness of our people. Together, I believe that we will be successful in building a new and progressive Kwara South Senatorial District”, he added.
