The University of Ilorin has announced with deep regret a tragic motor accident that occurred on its campus this afternoon, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries.
The accident involved a commercial bus carrying ten passengers as it was exiting the campus. Promptly responding to the emergency, the University Management initiated rescue operations, and all victims were swiftly taken to the University Health Centre for medical attention.
Of the passengers, one required advanced medical care and was transferred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) after being stabilized. Four others sustained minor injuries, received treatment, and have since been discharged. Five individuals, including the driver, remain under medical care at the University Health Centre.
Sadly, one passenger was pronounced dead upon arrival at the health centre. The deceased’s body has been moved to the morgue, and efforts are underway to notify the next of kin.
In an official statement, Kunle Akogun, Director of Corporate Affairs, expressed the University’s profound sorrow over the incident. “The Management regrets this unfortunate incident, condoles with the family of the deceased, and prays for a quick recovery of the injured victims,” he said.
