Woman beaten to death over alleged missing N2,500

A woman was left bleeding from all parts of her body after a mob stripped her naked, inflicted beatings on her over accusations she stole N2,500 from a garri seller.

The deceased who recently delivered of a baby after nine years of waiting was rushed in a tricycle to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The accused woman had gone to the market on Saturday 21 August at Urua Kpokpo, a local market in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state to get items, where a certain garri seller who is now on the run raised alarm and accused the victim of stealing her N2,500.

This medium learnt that the victim opened her wallet and showed the trader over 40,000 in her wallet, saying that she wouldn’t stoop so low to steal.

However, when the trader became adamant, the victim offered to part with 2,500 to calm nerves but the trader reportedly insisted it must be her exact money.

A gathering mob started beating the victim who kept pleading her innocence crying that she just put to birth and her baby’s dedication was the following day Sunday, it was learnt.

Reports say a member of the mob picked a long iron rod and pushed it into the victim’s private parts causing severe bleeding, rupture and tear.

A Keke rider who arrived at the scene moments after the worst had happened took her to the hospital but it was too late.

Meanwhile, the garri seller who had falsely accused the unconscious woman thereafter announced to her fellow market women that she had seen her missing money. The money was stuck in between her bags of garri, she reportedly said.

We gathered that immediately she realised what she had done she packed up her wares and ran away from the market.

As at the time of filling this report, It is unclear if police have made an arrest despite several calls on market authorities to produce the fleeing women.
