2023: Kwara YPP holds Congress, as Party gets new leadership, receives decampees

The Young Progressives Party (YPP), Kwara State Chapter on Saturday held its State Congress, where new leaders that will pilot the affairs of the party to victory in the 2023 General Elections were elected.

The Congress held at the party secretariat, Ilorin was conducted under the supervision of the National Officials of the Party.

The Party which had earlier elected officers into the Wards and Local Government Areas across the State, held hitch-free, fair and credible Congress in accordance with the provisions of Electoral Act.

Party leaders, Stakeholders, women and youth leaders, and party stewards trooped out in their numbers to show solidarity to the party.

Inaugurating the newly elected Executives, the National Secretary of the party, Hon. Barr. Vidiyeno Bamaiyi said that the peaceful conduct of the party’s electoral process through a consensus arrangement is in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the party.

Hon. Bamaiyi urged the new Executives to embark on massive mobilization of members and double the present number of members of the party in the State.

He also encouraged them on massive sensitization of both young and old to register for their Permanent Voters Card and take over the leadership of the state come 2023.

“You must work harder and ensure that you present credible candidates for all the elective positions in the state for the 2023 General Elections.

“Count on our support at the national secretariat that we will give you all what you need to succeed in kwara state”, he said.

Receiving the decampees, Hon. Bamaiyi assured them of justice and fairness amongst members of the party and called on others who are yet to join to do so.

Earlier, in his welcome speech, the Kwara State Chairman of YPP, Hon. Charles Olufemi Folayan appreciated the incumbent state executives of the party for all the achievements so far, saying that it was as a result of team work and their resilience and commitment that they succeeded.

Hon. Afolayan specially thanked Waziri Yakubu Gobir, Waziri Hausa and the Madawaki of Ilorin for his immense support at all times. “Our elders, women and youth in the party and the National Working Committee you are deeply appreciated for your support”, he added.

Speaking further, Hon. Afolayan noted that today YPP is the fastest growing political party in Kwara State, the only party with clear ideology and the best alternative for the people of Kwara and Nigeria.

“To the glory of God today we are handling over the baton of leadership to elected executive members across the 193 wards, 16 Local Governments and the state. We are handling over a party with over 60 thousand members, an inclusive party of youth, women and men, a party that would always be fair and just to her members, a party that would always reward hardwork, a party that is here not to steal but to offer service to the people”.

He, however, urged the new leadership to remain committed and focus not to derail from the principle and ideology of the party.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Chief Dele Ogunbayo said that he is highly delighted to be elected as the Kwara State Party Chairman and that he will not derail from the principles of the party to pilot the affairs of the party.

He added that he will use his wealth of experience and wisdom to uplift the party to the greater height.

“Young Progressives Party will by the grace of God rule Kwara State come 2023 – our party will triumph in all elective positions in the state and even at the national.

The success of of our party is the handiwork of all of us.”To my colleagues who are also elected from various Senatorial District, please let us be up and doing and work as one family. We must all serve as good examples to other members of the party.

Let this be our watchwords – Kwara State must be liberated from the hands of the cabals and bad eggs”, he said.

Highlights of the event was the acceptance of the new decampees into the party fold. Among whom were: Alhaja Ramat Oba-Ajara, Hon. Abdulrasheed Agboola and their supporters who decamped from People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

2023: Tambuwal, Bala, Saraki, opts for consensus… To share thoughts with Atiku soon

Gov. Bala Muhammad of Bauchi state on Sunday hosted his Sokoto state counterpart, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and the former Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki to a consensus building initiative among aspirants of Northern extraction for the position of President under the aegis of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The trio, all seeking the nomination of the PDP to run for the seat of Nigeria’s President, met for about two and half an hours in Government House, Bauchi.

At the close of the meeting they posited that it is their considered resolution that against the backdrop of the failure of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to provide good governance, all those seeking to be President under the PDP should unite and rally round one candidate.

The triumvirate from the three geopolitical zones in the Northern part of the country- North-Central, North-East and North-West also agreed that at a later date they will visit former President Atiku Abubakar, himself another presidential aspirant from the North, to brief him on the outcome of their brainstorm.

Saraki who briefed journalists after the meeting said: “we appreciate that all of us have shown ambition but only one person could lead.

“For this reason, we decided that we should all embrace consensus going forward in order to make things easier for our party’s stability,” Saraki stated.

He pointed out that their convergence, taking cognizance of the sorry state of the country and its people, which the APC is not ready to alleviate, are convinced that the PDP must lead the way in the March to rescue the country in 2023.

He asserted that although all of them seeking the numero uno position are all qualified to contest, “we are ready to sacrifice our ambitions.

“We have agreed to put our heads together and see how best to provide leadership and direction for this country, its unity, stability and progress.

“These are more important than our individual ambitions, thus the need for us to work together,” he emphasized.

“Today is momentous. The PDP is ready because what is important is Nigeria. Whatever we do, Nigeria should come first,” the former Senate President further added.

While Governor Tambuwal was accompanied by the former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau and a Chieftain of the PDP in Sokoto state, Engr Bello Suleiman, Saraki came along with the former national Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje and others.

The Deputy Governor of Bauchi state, Engr Baba Tela was also present at the press briefing.

Reps aspirant, Alege calls for active participation in voters’ registration, electoral processes

A leading House of Representatives aspirant for the Ilorin East/South Federal Consistency under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ibrahim Bolaji Alege, on Saturday, called on party members, including youths to participate actively in the ongoing INEC’s Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) as that would allow them the leeway to participate actively in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.

Alege made this call while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on why PDP members must participate actively in voters’ registration to get the desired change.

The academician emphasized that their first responsibility as PDP members is to register as voters and obtain Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC), because it is the most important weapon that is needed for the battle ahead of the party.

“Members of PDP in Kwara State and youths must participate in the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission Continuous Voters’ Registration for them to actively take part in the choice of leaders in the 2023 General Elections.

“Voters’ card is very important to enable us participate during the election. I want to appeal to members and youths who are yet to register for their PVC to see the registration as part of their contribution to the party and ensure that we record all-round victory in the forthcoming General Elections”, he said.

Alege, who called on party Stewards, INEC and CSOs to continue the sensitisation of the populace on the importance of PVC, stated that the PVC is the only way the youth could engage in politics and shape the affairs of the country.

According to him, a new Nigeria is possible only if we could arm ourselves with their PVCs to engage political leaders and ensure that those not performing or the political misfits were now allowed to get into political offices through popular votes.

“The country needs new and progressive ideas, based on modern knowledge, driven by technology, for it to move ahead and fulfill its destiny in the comity of nations,’’ he added.

2023: Forum purchases presidential form for Atiku

North East Business Forum has purchased the presidential form for former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

The purchase of the form came barely 24 hours after the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opened the sale of nomination and expression of interest form for the 2023 General Elections.

Speaking shortly after receiving the presidential form, Atiku said, “In 2018 or (2019 some young men contributed money and bought a nomination form, the first in political history since the return of democracy to our country and truly they made me to shed tears.

“They put together their hard earned money and purchased me a nomination form, that actually brought tears from my eyes. I was emotional about it.

“Now again today like the chairman of the Northeast Business Forum said, we were invited and another gesture was extended to me. It was a promise. And today, it is a promise fulfilled.

“The challenges before us as Nigerians is enormous and in fact, I have never faced these type of challenges in the history of our country.

“Our unity is threatened, our economy is in the worst state of affairs since the inception of this country. Our security is a disaster. These are very serious challenges. These are challenges that require the unity of everybody in this country.

“These challenges cannot be solved by an individual or a group of individuals, or whatever. But they require all hands on deck. So my brothers and sisters, my fellow countrymen, what is before us is not an easy job. Nation building ordinarily is not an easy job”, Atiku said.

2023: Educationist, Alege declares to run for Reps

An educationist, Mallam Ibrahim Bolaji Alege has declared his intention to contest for a seat at the Nigerian House of Representatives in the next year’s General Elections.

Alege, who expressed his intent to vie for Ilorin East and South to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Leaders in the Constituency, said that he was contesting for the seat for the interest he has in legislative process and service to his people.

While submitting his letter of intent to run for the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly at Ilorin East PDP Secretariat, Alege said that his desire to represent the people is not in lure of office but as an academician, he has the reach and contacts to serve the people meritoriously.

“I have learnt a lot as a Lecturer and it will really assist me in my conducts, especially in the areas of management and impacting on people.

“Also, as a former SSA on Religion Matters, I have requisite contacts and connections within the grassroots and state level, which I can rapidly use to bring development to our people within a space of four years.

“I choose to run not because I believe I can solve all the problems of our people. But because I am convinced that as their representative I will be part of the solution not part of the problem as our present and some past representatives became.

“Our representatives in the past have failed to attract development to our homeland, while people of the constituency had suffered lost opportunity but I am prepared to make a difference”, he said.

Responding, the PDP Chairman of Ilorin East, Hon. Dare Aliyu Garba welcomed Alege and his supporters to the Local Government’s Party Secretariat, even as he thanked him for his steadfastness and struggle for the party.

Hon. Garba said further that Alege is a party man whose contribution can never be forgotten.

He therefore promised on behalf of other Executive members to be fair and just to all aspirants.

Likewise, the Party Youth Leader, Tajudeen Are described Alege as a man of people who have the required qualities to represent the people of the Constituency.

Meanwhile, the aspirant also met with the PDP Kwara Central Executive at its secretariat, Stadium Road, Ilorin, where he made his intention known.

While soliciting for the assistance of the Senatorial Chairman and Executive on his ambition, Alege said that nothing can be done without their support and cooperation.

The chairman Kwara Central Senatorial, Mallam Isiaka Owolabi appreciated the aspirant for knowing the importance of coming to the Senatorial office.

He commended him for having good relationship with many people, which he said “today is pay back time for the respect he has for many people.

“Also you did well when you were SSA and I want to believe that you can do better if elected”, Mall Owolabi said.

Mallam Owolabi appreciated Alege for not coming with rented crowd but with the Executives of Oke Ogun, which shows that his people are really in his support because of his good relationship and respect.

In attendance were, Ward Chairmen and Women Leaders, Party Leaders, Stewards and supporters of Mallam Ibrahim Bolaji Alege.

2023: Ex-Ilorin West TIC Chair, Bayero declares intention to run for House of Reps

A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency of Kwara State, Alhaji Ahmad Bayero has declared to run for House of Representatives in the 2023 General Elections.

Bayero, a former TIC Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government, formally declared interest to contest for a seat at the Green Chamber during his visit to the PDP Secretariat in Ilorin the State Capital on Tuesday.

He said his decision to become a federal legislator was born out of his passion to give his constituents good and able representation at the lower arm of the National Assembly.

He said, “I am here today to officially submit my letter of intent to contest for Federal House of Representatives to represent Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency in 2023. I have served in different capacities in the party and the State.

“I believe my experience will be of immense help to bring back PDP to the mainstream in 2023. I want to state categorically that my ambition is not do or die.

“As you know, I am a party man to the core and would abide by the party decision even if I am not favoured”, he said.

Bayero, however, enjoined the leadership of PDP in Kwara State to provide a level playing ground to all aspirants during the primary elections, noting that victory is assured with the calibre of leaders of the party.

On his part, The Chairman of PDP, Rt. Hon. Babatunde Mohammed welcomed Bayero and his supporters to the party secretariat, even as he thanked him for his steadfastness and struggle for the party especially during the trying times of being in opposition.

“Hon. Bayero is one of us, he has been a party man all his life. Let me use this medium to appreciate his efforts all this while,” he said.

He therefore promised on behalf of other Executive members to be fair and just to all aspirants.

Kwara ADP elects leaders ahead of 2023, says it’s poised for victory

Ahead of 2023 General Elections, the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Kwara State Chapter yesterday successfully held its State congress, where new Executives to pilot the affairs of the party to victory were elected.

The ADP is among the surviving 18 political parties in the country and was registered in 2017. 

The Party which had earlier elected officers into the Wards and Local Government Areas across the State, rounded up the Congresses with the election of the State Executive, ahead of the 2023 General Elections.

The State Congress which was hitch-free, fair and credible, was strictly observed by officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking at the Congress, the State Chairman of the Party, Comrade Lukman Adeshina Ajisafe, said that ADP is ready to offer purposeful leadership and deliver the dividend of democracy to Nigerians and Kwarans in particular.

Comrade Ajisafe added that ADP in Kwara State has come to stay because it is a party that has been known with character, focus and integrity which is being positioned to take over power at all levels in the State.
He added further that the party will present candidates for all elective positions in Kwara State in the forthcoming elections.

Comrade Ajisafe who said that the conduct of the congress was in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and ADP Constitution, described the exercise as the first step to victory for the party in the 2023 Governorship, Senatorial, House of Representatives, House of Assembly and LGAs elections in the state.

In his acceptance speech, on behalf of the State Executive, the re-elected State Chairman of the party, Comrade Lukman Adeshina Ajisafe, said with ADP Governor on the seat of power in Kwara, the state would witness rapid and massive industrialization that would pave the way for mass employment of young people.

He added that the people of the state want a new crop of leaders who would salvage the situation and ADP is there to fill the gap if the people aligned themselves with ADP.

He, then, encouraged the newly elected Executive to take it as responsibility to server the party wholeheartedly.

According to him, “I Want to sincerely congratulate every newly elected Executive of ADP in Kwara State. I equally thanked the delegates and the INEC officials for attending our Congress.

“You have given us the mandate to take over the leadership of this great party in the state, I can assure you that we will work in accordance with the Constitution of the party. We will be fair in all our dealings as regards our activities going forward in  Kwara ADP.

“I will want to encourage all elected Executives that we should take it as a challenge that it is not going to be business as usual. ADP in kwara of today have a responsibility to ensure that we do it right. So, therefore, we are going to try as much as possible to approach more narratives to get positive result”, Comrade Ajisafe said.
