The upcoming Kwara Forward Media Summit (Executive Session 1.0) and the unveiling of the book Sardauna in the Eyes of History, scheduled for 5 November 2026, represents a pivotal moment in the socio-political evolution of Kwara State.
Organised by the Sardaunan Ilorin Legacy Platform (SILEP), this event transcends an ordinary gathering of the political elite; it stands as a critical forum for institutional reflection, accountability, and the documentation of governance methodologies.
As it draws an exceptional assembly of dignitaries, including the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON; the Emir of Ilorin, HRH Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR; First Lady of Kwara State, Prof Amb Olufolake AbdulRazaq; Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly and APC Governorship Candidate, Rt. Honourable Salihu Yakubu Danladi; Director-General of NILDS, Prof Abubakar Olarewaju Sulaiman; and Director-General, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr Abdulateef Shittu, the summit reiterates a collective recognition that sustainable development requires a deliberate alignment between leadership, public service culture, and traditional institutions.
Historically, African political landscapes have suffered from a paucity of rigorous, contemporary documentation regarding governance. The official unveiling of Sardauna in the Eyes of History: A Book of Leadership, Service Culture and Inspiration for All Spheres of Life directly addresses this knowledge gap.
“:Documenting the administrative tenure and public service philosophy of the Sardauna of Ilorin, Governor AbdulRazaq, who concurrently serves as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), provides a baseline framework for contemporary statecraft.”
As it analyzes both the challenges and successes of his leadership style, the text offers a valuable blueprint for future administrators, policy-makers, and researchers seeking to understand the dynamics of subnational governance in Nigeria.
Hosting the summit at the Radio Kwara Hall reinforces the indispensable role of the media as the fourth estate of the realm. A functional democracy relies heavily on open channels of communication between state actors and the populace.
” The summit’s structural focus on “leadership, governance, transformation, and legacy” provides an environment where government policies can be contextualized. With the keynote address delivered by Dr Rafiu Ajakaye and the formal book review conducted by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, the event transitions from routine political communication to an intellectual analysis of public policy and human capital development.”
One of the primary benefits of Executive Session 1.0 is its capacity to act as a catalyst for cross-sectoral collaboration. The invitation list bridges the three tiers of government (Federal, State, and Local), legislative bodies, and technocrats, alongside crucial non-state actors such as:Organized labour leaders, Civil society organizations (CSOs), Professional bodies and academic communities, Youth and student leaders.
Bringing these diverse stakeholders into the same room enhances an environment for inclusive governance.
It allows community development associations and youth advocates to engage directly with institutional leaders, ensuring that conversations around “legacy” are not insulated from the realities of the citizenry.
The active participation of the Emir of Ilorin as the Royal Father of the Day emphasizes the enduring importance of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and social cohesion.
In a moment where rapid political transitions can sometimes strain social fabrics, the harmony between the ancient Emirate structure and modern democratic governance serves as a stabilizing force for Kwara State. This partnership ensures that developmental policies remain culturally aligned and sustainably integrated into the community.
The SILEP Media Summit is a strategic exercise in legacy-building and institutional learning. As the initiative is committed to institutionalizing the service culture of the present administration into a written record, the platform ensures that the lessons of contemporary governance are preserved to guide, inspire, and shape the leaders of tomorrow.
