The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kwara State Chapter has concluded its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), with a focus on addressing the growing concern of digital violence against women and girls.

The theme of the AGM was “Reclaiming Digital Spaces: Ending Technology Facilities Gender-Based Violence.”

FIDA Kwara Chapter”s Chairperson, Funke Balogun Esq., highlighted the organization’s commitment to protecting, promoting, and defending the rights of women and children in the state.

She noted that since assuming office, the organization has sustained its struggle for women’s rights, with over 10 trainings held on leadership skills and critical areas of FIDA’s mandate.

According to her, the organization has enjoyed the continued and consistent support of key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the First Lady, the Judiciary, the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, House of Assembly, law enforcement agencies, and other related NGOs. This support has been instrumental in enabling FIDA Kwara to achieve its objectives.

During the year, five FIDA members earned certificates in the Social Standards Advanced Certificate Course, a collaborative program organized by the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University (JOSTUM), and the Institute of Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards.

Additionally, the office of Her Excellency donated a sum of N750,000 to an indigent woman to enhance her livelihood.

The “He for She” Champion Platform was declared by the National at the just-concluded FIDA Nigeria AGM. Few members attended FIDA Nigeria leadership training for the North Central Zone earlier this year, and 80% of programs designed for the year 2025 were achieved.

Barrister Seye Thompson, a principal partner at Seye Thompson Attorneys, delivered a keynote address on the topic “Reclaiming Digital Spaces: Ending Technology Facilities Gender-Based Violence.”

He emphasized the need to focus on women facing domestic violence and to consider redress in law.

He also discouraged patriarchal attitudes and advocated for reorientation to support women’s participation in decision-making processes.
