The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) have joined forces to accelerate the digitization reform process within the government.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, and Dr. Dasuki Arabi, the Director-General of BPSR, to mark the beginning of their collaborative efforts.
The signing ceremony, which took place at the NCC’s Head Office in Abuja, saw Prof. Danbatta emphasizing the importance of collaboration with relevant stakeholders, in line with NCC’s Strategic Vision Plan (SVP).
The MoU aims to enhance efficiency and productivity by implementing enabling policies and involving appropriate institutions in the digital transformation.
As part of their commitment, the NCC will continue to drive broadband penetration, laying the foundation for a successful digitization process. The availability of broadband infrastructure across the country is a crucial element in transforming governance and key service sectors of the economy.
Prof. Danbatta expressed confidence that the digitization process would lead to a paperless system of governance, allowing chief executive officers to handle their duties online, eliminating the need for offline paperwork.
Dr. Dasuki Arabi, in response to the collaboration, highlighted the Bureau’s decision to work closely with the NCC due to the latter’s remarkable achievements in adopting emerging technologies.
NCC had previously been rated Platinum Organization by the BPSR’s online Self-Assessment Tool, setting a high standard for other government agencies.
The collaboration will build on the success of previous workshops and conferences organized by NCC in partnership with BPSR on Distributed Ledger Technologies (the Blockchain) in 2022.
The MoU aims to create a strong and resilient public service that promotes a corruption-free environment and encourages economic growth and investment.
Moreover, the efforts to improve access to government information and services through the Federal Government’s Scorecard for ranking websites of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are expected to have a significant impact on the country’s socioeconomic development.
This collaboration between NCC and BPSR signifies a significant step forward in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey, with the goal of achieving a more efficient, transparent, and technologically advanced government system. As the implementation progresses, it is anticipated that Nigeria will witness substantial improvements in governance and service delivery, fostering a conducive environment for economic growth and development.
