The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the decision of a court to grant bail to its State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olusegun Olusola Adewara Sholyment, describing the development as a victory for due process and the rule of law.
Adewara regained his freedom on Monday after spending several weeks in remand custody in a case that has generated considerable political interest within Kwara State.
His detention had drawn reactions from party members and opposition supporters, who repeatedly called for his release.
Reacting to the development, the PDP leadership said the court’s decision had renewed confidence in the judicial system and demonstrated that democratic institutions remain vital in safeguarding citizens’ rights.
In a statement issued by the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bashir Ashura, the PDP expressed appreciation to its members, supporters, and legal team for standing by the party throughout the period of the spokesperson’s incarceration.
The party noted that the case stemmed from proceedings initiated by the administration of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, adding that the bail ruling has been received with relief across its structures in the state.
Political observers view the release as a potentially significant development in the state’s political landscape, particularly as parties intensify activities ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
Adewara has been one of the PDP’s most vocal voices in criticizing government policies and articulating the opposition’s position on issues of public concern.
The PDP maintained that democracy thrives when differing political opinions are allowed to coexist within the framework of the law, stressing that freedom of expression remains a cornerstone of democratic governance.
Party leaders also used the occasion to reaffirm their commitment to pursuing political engagement through lawful and democratic means while continuing to hold government accountable on matters affecting the people of Kwara State.
With his release, Adewara is expected to resume his duties as the party’s chief spokesperson, a role that places him at the forefront of the PDP’s public communication strategy in the state.
The development is likely to boost morale within the opposition party, which has portrayed the court’s decision as an important affirmation of judicial independence and constitutional rights.
