The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has again appreciated the Kwara State governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over plan to build a housing estate for teachers in the state.
The Chairman of the state wing, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Oyewo Muhammad Bashir, in an interview with The Herald On Sunday, weekend, said the plan is first ever in the history of the state, adding that teachers have enthusiastically embraced the kind gesture of the governor wholeheartedly.
According to him, in readiness for the housing scheme, NUT has since set up a formidable committee to work with government on the modalities and prompt realization of the dream.
The committee which comprised the leadership of the state chapter, All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools ( ANCOPSS ) and members of forum of NUT chapter chairmen in the three senatorial districts of the state, namely Kwara North, Central and South, is being driven by the state wing chairman of the union, Comrade Bashir.
He said, ” it’s a welcome development and it is the first time any government in Kwara State has taught it wise and deem it fit to make teachers more comfortable. Therefore, I think the government of Mallam AbdulRazaq deserved huge commendation for the kindness.
” I believe that one of the most convenient thing that human being need and desire is comfortable accommodation for himself and his family.
” And if the state government has deem it fit to capture teachers with the intention of providing a housing estate where teachers would have the opportunity of getting their personal houses, I think is a welcome development and a thing of joy to NUT and teachers in general”.
The NUT boss reiterated that the union was committed in partnering the state government and ensuring the success of the project, saying since the union’s committee is already on ground, the teacher’s body is fully ready to meet government whenever it is invited.
He recalled the earlier engagement with government, explaining, ” the Commissioner for Urban and Regional Planning, sometimes ago invited us and discussed the plan concerning the housing scheme with us.
” We are glad about it. Indeed, we are looking forward for a good working relationship as we also pray for the realization of the project.”
