Media Practitioners have been urged to rescue the planet from the damages and effect of climate change by doing more reportage on climate actions in their environment.
Professor Saudat Abdulbaqi of the mass Communication department University of Ilorin made this call while delivering her speech at a Climate change Journalism workshop jointly organized by the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative, DA news and Sobi FM chapel of the Kwara state council of the NUJ held at Sinclair hotel Ilorin.
Journalists according to Prof Abdulbaqi are now the last hope of the planet responsible in educating people on the effects of human activities on the climate and steps every individual can take to reduce the damages of climate change on the earth.
In his remark Dare Akogun, a climate change advocate and a broadcaster with Sobi FM urged journalists to always present facts about climate change to debunk myths associated with climate change.
He said while reporting on on effect of climate change the messages should be in line with what the targeted audience can relate with which he said will aid quick understanding of the targeted audience and the intended messages will be passed.
In his lecture the Managing Director of Nature News Newspapers Rasheed Yussuff also charged journalist to use their different medium to encourage people on sustainable climate actions such as environmental sanitation and planting of trees to protect the planet.
