The University of Ilorin has announced that former Governor of Lagos State and immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, will deliver the Convocation Lecture at its 40th Convocation Ceremonies.
According to a statement signed by the Registrar of the University, Mr. Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, the week-long ceremonies will run from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Mr. Fashola’s lecture, titled “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World,” is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the University Auditorium by 9:00 a.m.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is also expected to commission some newly completed projects of the University as part of the convocation activities.
The Registrar, who is also the Secretary to the University Governing Council, outlined the programme of events, noting that activities will commence with a Special Juma’at Service at the University Central Mosque on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., followed by an Interdenominational Church Service on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Chapel of Light, University campus.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, will on Monday, October 20, 2025, address a World Press Conference to highlight the University’s achievements over the past year and provide details of the convocation events.
On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the Convocation Play, “Joromi,” will be staged at the University’s Performing and Film Arts Theatre in two sessions — from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Alfanla further disclosed that the convocation for graduands of four-year programmes and Diplomas will take place immediately after the Convocation Lecture on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The ceremony for graduands of five- and six-year programmes, as well as postgraduate students, will hold on Thursday, October 23, 2025, followed by the investiture of Emeritus Professors.
President Tinubu is expected to commission various completed projects across the campus later that day at 1:30 p.m., after which the Staff Merit Awards and Convocation Luncheon will hold at 4:00 p.m.
The week-long ceremonies will conclude with another Special Juma’at Service on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the University Central Mosque by 1:30 p.m., and a Thanksgiving Service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on Sunday, October 26, 2025, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
