Olomu, ODU, NUJ, IEMF celebrate Mustafa Abubakar’s induction into IPI Nigeria

A wave of commendations has continued to trail the induction of Comrade Mustafa Abubakar into the International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria, with community leaders, professional bodies, and institutions describing the honour as a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding contributions to journalism.

The induction ceremony, held on Tuesday, 2 December 2025 at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, brought together seasoned media professionals from across the country.

On behalf of HRH Oba Muhammed-Yakubu Adebayo Buari, the Olomu of Omupo, the National President of the Omupo Descendants Union (ODU), Dr. Monisoye Afolabi, congratulated Mr. Abubakar, who serves as the National Publicity Secretary of ODU.

Dr. Afolabi described the honour as an evident to his hard work, dedication, and highly impressive career in journalism.

He expressed optimism that the induction into the Vienna-based global institute would further elevate Mr. Abubakar’s professionalism and open new doors for career growth.

Similarly, the University of Ilorin Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has celebrated the achievement, applauding Mallam Mustafa Abubakar’s long-standing service and leadership within the media sector.

In a statement signed by the Chapel Chairman, Mr. Adewoyin Adekola Tijani, the union commended his exemplary mentorship, integrity, and commitment to ethical journalism.

Adewoyin noted that Mallam Mustafa, a former Vice-Chairman of NUJ Kwara State Council and an Assistant Director at the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, has consistently demonstrated qualities that distinguish him as a role model for younger journalists.

He added that the Chapel is proud to witness one of its members receive such a prestigious recognition, describing the honour as “a systematic way of paying back his years of hard work and dedication to the profession.”

Also joining the chorus of praise is the Igbomina Ekiti Muslim Forum (IEMF), which lauded Comrade Abubakar’s professionalism, integrity, and resilience.

In a statement signed by its National President, Alhaji Nasir Ibrahim, the forum highlighted the rigorous selection process of IPI, affirming that his induction stands as proof of his credibility and significant contributions to the media landscape.

The IEMF also acknowledged his personal sacrifices, including travel and financial commitments, to complete the induction process, describing them as a demonstration of his passion for ethical journalism and continuous professional development.

Founded in 1950, the International Press Institute is a global network of journalists, editors, and media executives committed to the promotion of press freedom and high-quality journalism worldwide.
