An Ilorin based Foundation, the Peter and Deborah Charity Mission has distributed foodstuffs to about 1000 indigents in Kwara.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the distribution cuts across religious inclinations, tribe and political affiliations.
Speaking on the sidelines of the give-aways, Mr Ademola Gbenle, the Founder of the mission explained that the programme is an annual giveaway in the loving memory of their late parents; Pa Peter and Deborah.
Gbenle who was represented by the Spokesperson and sister of the sponsor, Mrs Elizabeth Ajiboye, stated that the charity mission is a yearly programme organised for the past 10 years.
“The purpose is to give food items, and cash to people. That’s what the sponsor, Mr Ademola Gbenle have been doing. It’s not a political event. He’s not doing it for any political attention or anything.He just give to people to make them happy,” she said.
Gbenle described his parents as passionate people who were committed to the care of the indigents, adding that they were givers when they were alive.
“They showed passion to people, and that’s what we are doing, in remembrance of their memories.
Also speaking, Pastor Adebisi Oluwaseyi, of the Living Faith Church, State Headquarters in Ilorin commended the Foundation for the humanitarian gesture.
“This is annual programme, where they gather people like this together to share love in remembrance of their parents.
“This programme is specially sponsored by the son who stays in the United States of America, who is also a member of the winners family,” he said
He described the sponsor as a man who loves to give back to the society and who is treading on the path laid down by his late parents.
Adebisi, who quoted the Bible said, “the memory of the just is blessed”, but beyond that, the year is running towards the end, it’s a time to reconcile with God.
“We have not kept ourself from the beginning of the year, God has kept us. So if God has kept us, We should reconcile with him.
“There is nobody that is perfect, but then in our imperfection, we should return to God so that He can return unto us,” he said.
The cleric enjoins people to have faith in God in whatever situation they find themselves.
He advise Nigerians to show love to others by reaching out to the needy and indigents.
NAN reports that some of the items includes rice, beans, vegetable oil,gari, Semovita , condiments in each package and cash.
