As Nigeria joins the world in celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day, the Kwara State Chairperson of the Nigeria League of Women Voters (NILOWV) has called for increased participation of women in politics and decision-making at all levels.
In a statement issued to mark the occasion, Oladimeji commended the resilience, intellect, and dedication of Nigerian women for their contributions to governance and community development.
She emphasized the critical role women play in shaping society and stressed the need for inclusive policies that empower them to thrive.
This year’s theme is “Give to Gain,” focusing on investing in women through mentorship, education, and leadership to foster societal growth.
She stated that NILOWV (Nigeria League of Women Voters) is actively joining this celebration by launching a campaign to support five women for each electoral position, advocating for increased women in political leadership.
Oladimeji, who is also the Amirah of the Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN), called for the mainstreaming of gender equality in public policies.
She encouraged a mindset of generosity, collaboration, and investment in women’s education, leadership, and mentorship.
According to her, this year’s theme calls for moving beyond words to real change, focusing on dismantling structural barriers, promoting legal protections, and ensuring equality.
She stressed that there is a need to push more women to run for elective positions so that there will be numbers that can support policies that benefit the most vulnerable in society.
Oladimeji therefore urged women to stand firm in “Giving to Gain” to build, in unity and resilience, a Nigeria where every woman can live with dignity, respect, and equal opportunities.
