Governor AbdulRazaq’s Special Interventions Will Make Kwara Polytechnic Self-Sustaining, Says Rector

The rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Dr Abdul Jimoh Mohammed has hailed the numerous special interventions of the state governor, AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq aimed at making the state’s pioneer tertiary institution self- sustaining.

The elated rector listed such special interventions by Governor AbdulRazaq to include the 1000 – seat capacity Muhammed Alabi Lawal Auditorium and the completion of the abandoned 880- room capacity TETFund hostel cited at institution’s first roundabout.

He pointed out that the TETFund hostel, initiated by the administration of the late Governor Muhammed Lawal was abandoned by the immediate successors of Lawal for 16 years, but Governor AbdulRazaq has ensured its completion, to the relief of the management and comfort of the students.

Mohammed said the latest of such interventions by the governor is the electricity project executed by the institution in a bid to improve power supply to the institution and its neighbouring communities and agencies.

Addressing newsmen in his office, Mohammed disclosed that no fewer than four communities and six government agencies will benefit from the newly commissioned Harmony Feeder linked to Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin injection sub- station .

He said that the electricity project was undertaken by the Polytechnic’s management following approval granted by Governor AbdulRazaq.

The project will ensure regular power supply to Apata- Yakuba, Oyun, Oke- Oyi and Oke-Ose communities in Moro and Ilorin East local government areas. The communities are contiguous to the Polytechnic’s campus along the old Ilorin- Jebba road.

It will also make small and medium scale businesses thrive in the benefitting communities.

The state and federal government agencies that will also benefit from the institution’s largesse are the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Kwara Television/ Radio Kwara transmission stations, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC), Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

The rector thanked Governor AbdulRazaq for granting approval for the power project aimed at ensuring regular electricity supply to the institution and its neighbouring communities.

He expressed delight that the various special interventions of the governor have ensured the smooth running of the institution, adding that the staff and students of the institution were appreciative of the governor’s support for the institution at all times.

He disclosed that the institution as well as the aforementioned communities and agencies, have since the completion of the project been enjoying regular and more hours of electricity supply to the admiration of students, staff and the people of the communities
