Local Government chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across Kwara Central and Kwara South Senatorial Districts, alongside the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, have thrown their weight behind Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) following his endorsement by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as the preferred governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 election.
In separate statements issued on Tuesday, the party leaders described the Governor’s choice as strategic and timely, pledging total support for Seriki ahead of the APC governorship primaries scheduled to hold on Thursday.
The APC chairmen in Kwara Central, representing Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Ilorin West Local Government Areas, said Governor AbdulRazaq, having delivered impactful governance, deserves a major role in determining who succeeds him.
According to the statement jointly signed by the four chairmen, the decision followed extensive consultations by the Governor and reflects the collective interest of the party.
“It has always been our position that the Governor, like every leader who has done well for his people, deserves to have a strong say over who succeeds him. We are glad that His Excellency, after extensive consultations, has finally made his choice and we are fully in sync with this,” the statement read.
The chairmen expressed confidence in Seriki’s capacity to sustain and improve on the achievements of the AbdulRazaq administration, describing him as a worthy successor capable of taking Kwara State to greater heights.
They also pledged to mobilise stakeholders and party members across the district to ensure victory for Seriki during the primaries and the 2027 general election.
Similarly, APC Local Government chairmen across the seven councils in Kwara South Senatorial District unanimously endorsed Seriki’s emergence as the preferred governorship candidate of the party.
The chairmen commended Governor AbdulRazaq for what they termed a wise and strategic decision aimed at consolidating the developmental strides recorded under the current administration.
According to them, the Governor’s leadership and performance have earned him the moral authority to guide the party in choosing a capable successor.
“We in Kwara South APC fully align with the decision of His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in supporting Ambassador Yahaya Seriki as the preferred governorship candidate of our great party ahead of the 2027 election,” the statement noted.
The chairmen described Seriki as a loyal party man with strong grassroots appeal and the leadership capacity required to move the state forward.
They further pledged to mobilise youths, women, stakeholders and party faithful across Kwara South in support of his aspiration.
Also reacting to the endorsement, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, , described the development as welcome and deserving.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sheu Abdulkadir Yusuf, the Speaker said he fully aligned with the Governor’s decision in deference to party supremacy and loyalty to the leadership of Governor .
Danladi-Salihu described Ambassador as a close ally, accomplished businessman and committed supporter of the administration whose emergence would help consolidate the achievements of the present government.
He urged party members to unite behind the Governor’s choice and work collectively for the success of the APC in the 2027 general election.
