Hon. Usman Kawu Mohammed, son of former Governor of Kwara State and former Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Senator Mohammed Sha’aba Lafiagi, alongside businessman and senior PDP chieftain in Kwara North, Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Ahmed, have emerged as the party’s candidates for the House of Representatives following the conclusion of the PDP primary elections conducted across the six federal constituencies in Kwara State.
Hon. Usman Kawu Mohammed, who is aspiring to represent the people of Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, participated in a keenly contested direct primary election against fellow grassroots politician, Hon. Saba Jiya Timothy.
According to the returning officers for the election, Mrs. Mohammed Mama Fateemah and Mrs. Abubakar Nurat, Hon. Usman Kawu Mohammed polled a total of 15,053 votes to defeat Hon. Saba Jiya Timothy, who secured 6,053 votes.
The returning officers subsequently declared Hon. Usman Kawu Mohammed the duly elected candidate of the party for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Similarly, Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Ahmed, who emerged through the consensus arrangement adopted by the party, garnered 7,206 votes across the Kaiama/Baruten Federal Constituency, according to the constituency returning officers, Mr. Gambo Adam and Mr. Zuluqornain Suleiman Ahmad.
He was thereafter declared the duly elected candidate of the party for the House of Representatives seat in the constituency.
The primary elections were conducted in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), members of the National Election Monitoring Committee deployed from the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, as well as party stakeholders and delegates who participated in the exercise held at the party secretariat in Ilorin.
