The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has pledged to deliver improved security, economic growth, quality education, agricultural development and transparent governance if elected in the 2027 governorship election, as it officially unveiled Reverend Cornelius Olaosebikan Sunday (COS) Fawenu as its deputy governorship candidate.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony on Friday, the State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Isa Bawa Adamu, said the party was united, prepared and committed to offering Kwarans purposeful leadership anchored on competence, integrity, inclusiveness and service.

“Our message today is simple: the Peoples Democratic Party is united, prepared, and committed to providing purposeful leadership that prioritises security, economic growth, youth and women empowerment, quality education, agricultural development and transparent governance for all Kwarans,” Adamu said.

He explained that the emergence of Fawenu followed extensive consultations across the state, during which four eminent party members were nominated for the deputy governorship position.

According to him, the party leadership, critical stakeholders and the PDP governorship candidate, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu, carefully considered the nominees before settling for Fawenu as the running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

Adamu described the selection as a strategic decision based on merit, competence, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the development of Kwara State.

He said Fawenu, a respected cleric and community leader with over two decades of ministerial experience, has distinguished himself through his contributions to religious harmony, humanitarian service, community development and political advancement across the state.

The PDP chairman also commended Fawenu for relinquishing his earlier nomination as the party’s candidate for the Kwara South Senatorial seat in the overall interest of the party.

He noted that the decision reflected uncommon loyalty, discipline and commitment to the PDP’s collective mission, adding that the party had commenced the constitutional process of filling the vacancy created by his withdrawal from the senatorial race.

Adamu expressed appreciation to the other nominees and party stakeholders for their maturity and support throughout the consultative process, stressing that there were no losers in the exercise.

He called on members and supporters of the PDP to remain united as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general election.

The chairman formally presented Reverend Cornelius Olaosebikan Sunday (COS) Fawenu as the PDP deputy governorship candidate and running mate to Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu, expressing confidence that the party would secure victory and provide responsive, people-centred governance for the people of Kwara State.
