A member representing Ekiti Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Ganiyu Abolarin Gabriel, has alleged that some fifth columnists are out to destroy the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.
He said many of them, who have been known to be hobnobbing with the opposition, want to take the advantage of the forthcoming primary election, to cause mischief in the ruling party.
Gabriel spoke in an interview with Journalists in Ilorin, the state capital.
This came against the backdrop of the report that APC in Opin Ward had suspended the party Chairman in Ekiti Local Government Area, Mr Wale Awelewa, over alleged act of misconduct and for endorsing Hon. Ganiyu Abolarin Gabriel for second term in office.
However, Gabriel said there was no meeting held in the name of party where Awelewa was suspended, declaring that those who allegedly carried out the suspension were not known as executive members of the party.
The lawmaker said his recent endorsement for re-election by the APC stakeholders was based on his performance in office.
He described as laughable the recent report that the Chairman of the APC in Ekiti Local Government Area, Mr Wale Awelewa, had been suspended from the party, saying that Awelewa remained the authentic chairman of the party.
Gabriel, who chaired the Committee on Works and Transport in the state House of Assembly, said the APC was aware of the sponsors of the mischief-makers in the party, vowing that they would soon be exposed to the public.
The lawmaker expressed confidence that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq would be re-elected in 2023 due to his trail blazing achievements in changing the narrative of governance in the state.
