A former governorship candidate on the ticket of the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP), Dr. Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia has declared his intention to take legal action against some aides to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Kwara State, Alhaji Shuaibu Yaman Abdullahi over their recent comments.
He said that his decision to drag the duo of Wahab Oba and Mustapha Abdullahi aka ‘CommonSense’ to court was a result of their malicious article deliberately concocted from the substance of the suit between him and their principal.
Ajia made this know on Saturday, while briefing newsmen at Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre Conference Hall, Ilorin, on his dispute with Abdullahi Shuaibu Yaman which was turned into a political circus show by some unethical elements.
According to him, “I will also like to say to those on Abdullahi Shuaibu Yaman’s payroll – people like Wahab Oba and Mustapha Abdullahi CommonSense – who ironically has no dint of sense – You all will be hearing from my lawyers very soon.
“Though I have a dispute with your principal, I will not descend into the gutter and will not resort to blackmail. I will pursue justice with ethics as my guiding principles. And since you both have violated this normative principle, the two of you along with your principal must be ready to face the consequences under the law”, Ajia said.
Speaking further, Ajia said that he woke up to a viral news story in faraway USA, sensationalized his dispute with Yaman and embellished it, which he found it very distasteful.
“My dispute with Yaman was turned into a political circus show by some unethical elements. And while the instant case started since the defendant’s days in the APC, the issue in dispute isn’t a political one and I detest attempts to turn it into one.
“Those behind the malicious article under reference deliberately concocted a scenario further from the substance of the suit between Abdullahi Shuaibu Yaman and I and it became clear to me that these are people that are contemptuous of the truth and would do any and everything to fight their opponents including embracing deliberate falsehoods; I am not one of those.
“This episode has shown these fly by night – hack writers as people without scruples as they went to town with a patently false story. My dispute with Abdullahi Shuaibu Yaman is anchored on the truth and cannot be tainted by the shenanigans of a few paid no scruples hack writers.
“In the same vein, I will not be distracted in my pursuit of justice and I am using this medium to warn these unscrupulous individuals and their paymasters to keep name off their mouths and sell their candidate or candidates without muddling the waters.
“I believe in ethics and my philosophical training and belief is anchored on the golden rule. I am using this press conference to warn those behind the article in question and their sponsors to find another trade and as the case goes through the court, it is important for everyone, traditional media, new media, and citizen journalists to report only the truth as observed in the court proceedings. Nothing else will suffice”, he added.
Ajia, a former governorship candidate in the 2019 election, had filled a lawsuit number KWSG/280/2022 at Ilorin High Court against Shuaibu Yaman Abdullahi over an alleged unpaid debt of $2500.
