Court remands driver for kidnapping cleric, son in Ilorin

The Kwara State Police command has arraigned a fouty-nine-year old driver, Suleiman Alao, who was allegedly fingered in the kidnap of one Alfa Soliu and his son, Ali of Okoolowo area, Ilorin.

According to the police report, the cleric was sleeping with his family members when suspected armed kidnappers entered his house, demanding for jewelry from his wife.

In order to instill fear, one of the armed men slapped Alfa Soliu’s brother, Fasasi, an action he retaliated that provoked the suspects into shooting him and invariably left him in the pool of blood.

The suspects forcefully took the victims to an unknown destination demanding for one hundred million naira as ransom in order to release them.

On the same day of event, the defendant (Alao) was arrested around the house of the victims with no concrete reason for being in the place at that time.

Investigation conducted at the Anti Kidnapping squard revealed that the defendant criminally conspired with others at large by aiding or abetting the victim’s kidnap.

The prosecutor, Abdullahi Sanni, urged the court to use its discretionary power judiciously and judiciarily in the remand of the suspect adding that a motion exparte is attacked to their police report.

Magistrate Aminat Omotayo Shittu, in his short ruling, ordered the defendant’s remand while the matter was adjourned to 15th December for further mention.
