Jiya’s appointment into KWIRS board excites Kwara NUJ

The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has described the appointment of its member, Fatima Asabe Jiya, into the Board of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Board (KW-IRS) as well deserved.

The union thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of the state for honouring the union with the latest appointment.

A statement issued in Ilorin by the NUJ Chairman, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed and Secretary, Comrade Omotayo Ayanda, said the appointment is a blessing to the media industry in the state.

Commending the Governor for the gesture, the union noted that the honour is not for the appointee alone but for Kwara NUJ family.

“Kwara NUJ sincerely thanks Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for being media-friendly and his love for Journalists. We are using this opportunity to request for more appointments of practicing Journalists to enable them contribute their quota to the development of the state.

“The appointment of a Journalist into the board of KW-IRS is an insertion of a right peg in the right hole. It is a clear testimony of the state government’s commitment to work with media experts to ensure the general development of Kwara State.

“Our union will continue to uphold and maintain professionalism in the quest to position our darling State for accelerated growth and development, as well as placing priority in the promotion of government policies”, the statement said.

While congratulating Jiya on her appointment and for making Kwara NUJ proud, the union enjoined the new appointee to see her choice as a call to higher service and responsibilities.

“We urge the appointee to break new grounds and make huge waves in her new position for the benefits of Kwara State and the union in particular.

“We are confident that Jiya will perform her new role efficiently, and as the watchdog and mirror of the society, we are also confident that a practicing Journalist is in better position to perform extremely well in whatever capacity he or she is entrusted, especially as it relates to public service or political appointment”, the statement added.

The NUJ, therefore, admonished the newly appointed board members of KW-IRS, Mr Razaq Adio, Barrister Falola Jimoh Olarewaju, and Fatima Asabe Jiyah to see their appointment as a golden opportunity to serve the state meritoriously and contribute their quota to the ongoing developmental milestones that are being recorded in the state under Governor AbdulRazaq.
