The Bolaji Abdullahi Campaign Organisation (BACO) has challenged the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Saliu Mustapha to a public debate.
In a statement on Tuesday, by the DG of the campaign organisation, Alh. Tajudeen Sulu Oloje and made available to this medium, the organisation said Saliu Mustapha should choose the date, time and venue for the debate to avoid a repeat of the NUJ Debate, where he was Missing In Action (MIA).
It will be recalled that Mustapha, on Monday, failed to attend the NUJ Debate organized for candidates running for Kwara Central Senatorial seat, claiming that he was out of the country.
The Abdullahi campaign organisation however said they find it quite curious that Mustapha chose that very moment to travel outside the country despite the long notice served on all contestants.
“The debate provided the platform for all the candidates, to present to the people of Kwara Central their track record of achievements and their plans when they get into the office. All other candidates were present, except the candidate of the APC, Saliu Mustapha.”
“We wish Mustapha a safe journey back from his trip abroad. But we must note that with his repeated absence from public speaking engagements, he gives the unfortunate impression that he is running away from opportunity to face the people and present his ideas to them. The Senate run on ideas and debates. He needs to convince the people that he can speak for them.”
We hereby challenge Turaki Mustapha to a public debate with our candidate Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi. We concede the choice of date and time to him, he is also free to choose the venue. We hope that he will see this as opportunity to correct the impression that the people already have about him. “
“As a campaign organisation, we reiterate our commitment to an issue-based campaign, and would remain focused on our mission to move from the politics of big men to that of big ideas, which is the Bolaji Abdullahi promise.” The statement concluded.
