The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday conducted its Senatorial Primary Elections across the state, with Engineer Olayinka Otukoko emerging as the party’s consensus candidate for the Kwara Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The exercise was monitored by the Chairman of the Kwara State PDP, Isa Bawa Adamu, alongside members of the State Working Committee (SWC), who visited Adewole Ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area and Ibagun Ward in Ilorin East Local Government Area to observe the ongoing primary election process.
The primary election witnessed a large turnout of party faithful across the affected wards, as members participated in the exercise in an orderly manner.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies were also present at the venues to ensure a peaceful, credible, and hitch-free process.
Speaking on the exercise, the party leadership reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent and democratic primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, the Kwara State PDP had issued a notice informing party members, stakeholders, and aspirants that the Senatorial Primary Elections for the three senatorial districts in the state would hold in line with the timetable and guidelines approved by the national leadership of the party.
According to the party, the mode of the primaries was to be determined either through direct voting or consensus arrangement, depending on agreements reached among stakeholders and aspirants in the respective senatorial districts.
The party also urged registered PDP members with valid membership cards to participate in the process, while ward officials were directed to strictly comply with party guidelines.
