The former Vice Chairman of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Mustafa Muhammad Abubakar, has congratulated the National President of the Union, Mallam Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, for the successful hosting of the recently concluded National Security Summit held in Abuja.
Comrade Abubakar described the summit as a commendable and strategic initiative that created an important platform for robust discussions on Nigeria’s security situation and the critical role of the media in supporting efforts aimed at sustaining peace, stability and national development.
He noted that the leadership displayed by Mallam Alhassan in convening such an important national gathering reflects commitment to repositioning the Union as an institution actively contributing to nation-building beyond its traditional responsibilities.
Comrade Abubakar also commended members of the organising committee for their dedication, professionalism and commitment towards ensuring the overall success of the summit.
He particularly applauded the efforts of the organising committee chaired by the Deputy National President of the Union, Dr Abimbola Oyetunde, noting that the seamless coordination, quality participation and successful execution of the programme clearly demonstrated effective planning, teamwork and a shared commitment to national service.
According to him, the summit has further reinforced the importance of strengthening collaboration between journalists and security institutions, especially at a period when responsible information management remains vital in tackling insecurity and protecting public confidence.
Comrade Abubakar urged state councils and chapels of the Union across the country to emulate this laudable initiative by developing programmes and engagements that will contribute meaningfully to addressing societal challenges and advancing national development.
He stressed that the success of the summit should serve as a model for other councils and chapels, encouraging them to take proactive steps in promoting professional development, public enlightenment and constructive partnerships that will strengthen both the media profession and the country at large.
He also extended appreciation to elders of the union, serving and retired within the Union, including those un the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, acknowledging their enduring contributions to the growth of the profession and their continued support towards initiatives that strengthen journalism practice and national development.
Comrade Abubakar commended them for their commitment to professionalism, mentorship and institutional development, noting that their collective legacy remains invaluable in shaping a stronger and more responsible media landscape in Nigeria.
